Ruben Prulat answered some questions for us about his recent project called “Primates”.
Your “Primates” project got quite famous on the internet community over
the last few weeks. Did you expect this to happen right after you took the
photographs or did it come quite unexpected?Primates went through a lot of of blogs, tumblrs, websites and will also be published
in four magazines this spring such as Esquire (Russia), Title (US), Frozzen
(Mexican), and Trendsetter (Turkey). All this was a total surprise for me.
Unexpected at all. But what matters is that I am able to touch more people, with
the messages I try to show in my series such as “Immaculate” and “Primates”
showing humanity from another angle of view.

How would you describe the relationship between yourself/the human body
and the environment around you? Do you see yourself and nature as one or
would you consider these two as completely different? And how did you
approach the project?
In Primates I put my body on the shots to create an asexual human that show
that we can be in symbiosis but also in complete dissociation.Walking in the mountains trying to find the perfect spot, I walked all day alone till
that would make me feel something so strong, and would tell me where the shot is taken.
Then i settle the camera, the excitement grows, i put the timer on, get naked, and
run, feeling an incredible mix of euphoria and adrenalyn. I feel nothing. All the cold,
or pain is gone like inhibited by the mix of feelings. I feel everything. I settle my
body. The time is like suspended. I feel in peace.

At last, tell us about something you are interested in and what you do for
fun when you aren’t running around naked over mountains!Well when I’m not running around I naked study you. People just fascinate me by
their complexity that makes their beauty. That’s why I’ll lead my path from the
past to now and the future, to study them, try to understand them, mostly what
the groups are doing, the societies. Why societies are having recurent decisions
over history. Why are they scared of death, why…. etc, many questions as
diverse and complex as humans are, and lead their path. Because for me
photography is capturing humanity. Expressing happiness, sadness, joy, despair,
passion, frustration, love, or pain. All of the feelings that make us live.
